This month we are reading the book Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard. Our discussion will be held on Monday, January 31 at 6:30 PM. Be sure to email us to receive a link to the online meeting!
Hinds’ Feet on High Places is a work of allegory. This means that the people, places, things, and events have a symbolic meaning. The story symbolizes something deeper than what is written on the pages. As a work of Christian literature, Hinds’ Feet is about the journey we all take as we follow Jesus and experience transformation. Readers should be thinking about who the characters represent, where the story takes place, and the significance of what happens to the heroine, Much-Afraid, as she follows the Shepherd to the High Places.
The title of the book is drawn from two verses of scripture: Habakkuk 3:19 and Psalm 18:33. It is a good idea to read not only these verses, but the chapters they are part of because it helps us understand the purpose of the story. Not only is the title from scripture, but many quotes from scripture can be found throughout the book!
Our book club leaders for January have put together the following guide for you as you read Hinds’ Feet. This guide is drawn from the book Workbook and Guide for Hind’s Feet on High Places by Christine and Barbara Moon. We hope the questions, scripture references, and our personal reflections help you dive deep into the little story of Much-Afraid! You may download the guide for chapters 1-10 here.
